The Bon Accord Bike Ride was conceived in 2005 following inception of a new breakfast Rotary club who as their first fund raiser, in keeping with the Rotary wheel and in celebration of the Centenary of Rotary, launched the inaugural bike ride on Rotary’s centenary day. The event aimed at a broad range of riders including family groups took place in May 2005. The initial event attracted over 70 participants and raised over £4,000. Since that time hundreds of riders have participated and over £20,000 has been raised for a combination of local charities and Rotary international. The event is now held annually. The club is hoping to continue this as an annual family event for many years to come.
The ride follows two routes: both commencing besides the old bus shelter at the entrance to Hazlehead Park and one staying in close proximity to the Park aimed at younger participants and those less experienced, with a longer more challenging route meandering through picturesque Deeside for those wanting to spend a bit more time in the saddle. Please note that a short 500m section of the longer route is on a rough track which may be unsuitable for high performance racing bikes.
The Aberdeen Bon Accord Rotary Club thanks all of the participants as well as the event sponsors and individual sponsors of the the riders to date. The events have been a fun way of raising money for good charitable causes.
